Eyes are opening! They're getting to be mobile little potatoes! Check your pup's link under Available Pups! then Mass Effect Litter, then your pup's picture.
It was bath day... so they might look a bit damp. A few are still very nervous about the blow dryer so it's a slow process. I don't want to traumatize them with it, so we only go as far as the pups can emotionally handle it. Some are brave, others ...not so much yet. It's VERY normal. Pups mature at their own speed and blow dryers are frightening at first. But, baths need to happen because puppies keep choosing to wear their food. ;)
Some pups have gobs of pics, some do not. The ones that do not simply were 'done' with the day. For those with less than a bunch... I'll give them today to rest and try again tomorrow.
Answers before I get asked:
1. Yes, the eyes look blue. No they won't stay blue. They'll go brown. This is just baby eye stuff.
2. Yes, the blazes look different. As the fur grows, the blazes get thinner - even some disappearing entirely. If the coat was short, they'd remain the same as they were at birth.
3. Yes, they're not as dark. Again - fur... and sometimes, my camera.
4. Yeah... some look yellowish. That's my camera and shadows. Sorry. I try.
5. Yes, they're getting fluffy! I told ya. Wait until they're 5 -6 weeks old. Major floof!
So go look at the individual links! Remember - click "Available Pups!", then click the Warcraft litter, then click the photo of your puppy.
*Mass Effect litter is next up!*
For those waiting for individual pages on that litter.... there ya go!
Btw, I saw the faint glint of eyes opening! WOOOO!
But they're just not cooperating yet. So again, here's a video - 6 minutes this time - to buy me more time lol. I'm going to try this evening when they're sleepy. I keep taking loads of pictures with my Canon Rebel but they're all just blurred. #firstworldproblems. ;)
6 minutes of potatoes playing works though, right?
OK! Uploaded the wrong video. Thought it over-wrote it... but it was still on the Flip! So, here's the video! Whew!
Thanks for the heads up Rebecca!! <3
While I make Meghan (daughter) clean the puppy pen, I snuck off to do this update. ;)
All the pups are doing very well! Growing nicely, and getting big. They are enjoying their 3 meals of puppy mush a day and momma really appreciates that as they are getting their teeth in and use them during nursing. She still feeds them, but she's starting to taper them off now - which is totally normal. She is an early weaner usually and typically has them off the teat by week 4-5 and on puppy food and kibble 100%. She knows what she's doing.
Teething is a tough time for these potatoes. They whine and they get very grumpy. Much like human babies. During this period of time, they're given toys to teeth on and I don't over-stress them with long photo shoots. So, you'll get your individual updates, but you might just get a picture or two or a dozen depending on if they're whiny or not.
Today they got wormed for the first time. I worm with Nemex-2 at this age. It tastes good (apparently), so they readily accept it. I don't expect worms but it's normative to have them in pups. They get worms through the momma's milk. I worm my dogs on schedule, with the mommas getting wormed extra at the last bit of pregnancy and then again with the litter. Once they start pooping after worming, I'll review it to see if they have any worms in the fecal matter. By next worming (4 weeks old), there shouldn't be any. This is all normal stuff. Welcome to dogs! You'll be worming regularly too. ;)
Today also marks the date of their first toe nail trim. No more scratching momma! I like to do daily toe massages to ready them for trimming, but the pressure of an actual trim is a bit different and I want them to associate the act with good things, not scary things. They'll get weekly trims from this point forward with both a dremel and an guillotine trimmer - this way they understand neither are scary monsters. Trimming is something you all NEED to keep up on or you'll end up having to fight hard with your pup later on. It's traumatic, scary, and stressful when they're not used to it and early desensitizing only goes so far.
They will be getting their first full bath soon, and with that - blow drying with my professional dryer and I'll be using product in their hair ;). I use Ice on Ice which is a fur conditioner and it keeps the fur hydrated and soft. It's not needed for your pet, but I find it helps with keeping a soft coat which releases hair easier when grooming. That means less clumping when shedding out. It makes a BIG difference when you condition a coat and do regular grooming. Without that, I'd live in a house smothered in Corgi fur! lol I also use a comb to get to the undercoat. They're taught to stand still for this and accept brushing, toe touching, and posing. This helps for show and for regular grooming by owners. You don't want to have to fight your dog to brush it. I do not use furminators of any type as it breaks the coat. You can use whatever you'd like.
Mind, these pups don't necessarily need all of this grooming work. They have baby coats and aren't shedding yet. But, the more you work on things, the better the pup will be later on. Desensitizing the normal stuff helps. Plus, conditioning the coat makes for a nicer juvenile coat once they do shed the baby fur out. Again, it's your choice - I'm just telling you what I'm doing to your potatoes. ;)
Now, back to work for me!
You can see their cuteness on the Mass Effect pups page! While the females are pending in status, the pups aren't quite up for reserving yet. Next week they will be able to be reserved.
We were cleaning their pen and expanding it. The cover for their bed is in the wash, so we make due with towels for now. Not that the potatoes minded, they like burrowing. They got to run around in the dining room, causing chaos and interacting with the big dogs for a bit and got over-stimulated. The second we plopped them into their bed, 8 potatoes crashed hard lol. Jaina's still with her foster momma, so she's not in that picture.
Hi All! Sorry for the lack of pictures in the last couple of days. We got caught up in a project and I hadn't loaded up the ones I took. Today is bath day for the pups and then I'll be taking the 3 week old photos, the individual photos of the tri litter and actually loading them up so you guys can see!
Right now though, it's second breakfast for the Warcraft litter. They're devouring their puppy mush and still happily nursing. Love seeing nice full pups! They're playing a lot more, and have figured out toys! Growls and tug of wars are starting. Pretty soon, they're going to be everywhere!
Wait listers have had full opportunities on the Warcraft litter to choose their pup, so now it's open to new interest for the rest of the cute red boys! So, if you're holding off deciding, better choose fast!
This morning the Warcraft litter got their first taste of food! Spot Farms dehydrated mixed with goat's milk. They LOVED it! Those bellies got nice and full and they're all in a food coma now. Today we expand their pen just a tiny bit to include the litter box. I don't expect a lot of use until they're solidly in their 3rd week, but it allows us to collect some poop to 'seed' the box so they'll go to it quicker. Within a week these potatoes will be demanding their puppy mush and be using the box! Mom will continue to nurse for a few more weeks (she typically abandons the whole concept of nursing by week 5 and just visits to steal their food lol)
With eyes and ears open and the ability to walk now, it just means more movement and stimulation. They are growling, starting to pounce, they're learning their bark. They're figuring out how to behave as puppies with mom and siblings now. They're learning bite-inhibition and where they are in their 'pack'.
So far, the most dominant of the babies are the females (Jaina especially lol) and the males are all very, very laid back. Some are a bit more curious and courageous than the others, but this would be the first litter where they're pretty uniform in personalities! I blame this on Midas. He's just a big marshmallow!
PS. Arthas is a big sook... he got food on his paw and screamed murder until momma licked it off. ;) For those of you who play WoW... you might get a bit of a laugh out of that, I did.
PSS. After momma licks them all clean, I'll be bathing 9 food soaked pups. Oi.
PSSS! Hoping I can record the chaos tomorrow on video! LOL
I'll be taking individual photos of the Warcraft litter today! I'll also be taking litter pics of Draud's babies - including the late arrival. She's doing great and is swiftly catching up to her siblings. I withheld her update by a day because I wasn't entirely sure she'd make it and didn't want to get hopes up. But, she's fantastic and thriving!
Check back this afternoon!
8 of the pups will be ready for reservation. I'm retaining Jaina a bit longer, and if she's good to go soon, she's already been reserved.
So far I have 1 female tri-color and 7 red boys. I begin with wait listers. So, if I've approved you, please email me and let me know if you're interested in these boys. After that, I'll be opening them up to the AKC Marketplace.
We had a fantastic whelping last night for first time momma, Draudaea! 5 pretty tri babies, 3 boys, 2 girls. All healthy and momma is doing great. Perfect first time whelping and she's very devoted to her pups. Pictures coming soon. We're pretty tired here.
Gylli's pups are doing great as well! All are just starting to open their eyes and so the lights get dimmed, the sounds are muted and everything is sheltered just a bit to give them nothing frightening. We'll be giving them a few days of this so they can acclimate to the bigger world gently, then pictures will be coming and video!
Speaking of video, my Note 4 seems to not want to allow me to transfer my videos to my hard drive and keeps erroring out, so until I can fix this I went ahead and bought a cheap Flip video camera to take vids. It should arrive shortly. Sorry for no vids so far... I have them, they're just not uploading. Bleh.
Update: Sorry for not updating this earlier. We had a late arrival. Healthy and unexpected!
This is what morning looked like today lol. None of them wanted to get up but momma ...and that was because she was eating breakfast! Sorry for the lack of pictures up to now. Everyone has been very, very touchy since their vet visit. Daddy is a very sensitive dog so pretty sure a lot of these potatoes will end up like him. So, a few days of just destressing, relaxing and getting back into their happy places as worked wonders. No more grouches!
Pretty soon their eyes open and it'll be game on! But for now... this was a taste of morning... and sorry, it was seconds before I changed out the box, so the wee pads were still mussed from the night. You can handle it, yeah? ;)
Whew well we are just back from taking the puppers in. We meant to go yesterday but I'm having a sinus infection issue and didn't feel up to driving. Today was much better, I pre-medicated lol. Soooo... pics in a bit, after momma settles her babies and I rest a bit (still feeling off). All babies were looked at, no heart murmurs, no cleft lips or palates. All looked absolutely fabulous. Even the smallest female (Jaina) who I've been worrying for is gaining nicely and the vet has no recommendations for supplementing, stating she is on par with weight gain, she's just the littlest of the litter. Tails were docked, nails were done and I had to do body searches to make sure no one stuck a pup in a pocket ;). Everyone loves Corgi pups!
Day 3 and everyone looks good! Momma is a good post-birth weight and is doing fabulously with lots of milk. She's handling the 9 pups like a champ. All babies are up to a decent weight with only 2 that are lagging a bit (they were smallest at birth) but catching up to their sibs daily.
Tomorrow is nails and tails and a check-up at the repro vet and then we set up for round 2 for the next and final litter of 2018 which is due in just under 2 weeks from now. Crossing fingers for a healthy and successful whelping of tri-color pups from our first timer black-head girl!
PS... yes she needs her hind nails trimmed lol. You do -not- trim her nails while pregnant, she will protest vehemently, so we leave them alone to lessen stress while pregnant. Believe me, we're itching to take her talons away asap.
Check under Available Pups! then under the Warcraft litter.
Jaina is reserved right now.
My fav males are Khadgar and Vol'jin just because I like the amount of white on them and they have lovely broad heads. Of course, Midas is a beefy boy, so I expect all the boys to be the same... he likes to make cookie cutter versions of himself.
Soo... I asked for red males with a good amount of white.
I got 7 red males. The only two females are the tri-color and a very, very low white red! LOL
All's well this morning! I did a quick weigh in on the 9 and they're all gaining. I'll be taking ID pics for records after a few cups of coffee (and when Meghan gets up... I let her sleep in because I'm a kind and benevolent mom). Then we'll assign their litter names and I'll show you who is who! ;) As you know, all our litters are named after video games, so this round it's World of Warcraft. It should be fun!
