The potatoes decided they wanted to start wearing their mush versus eating it. Most prefer kibble (Diamond Naturals Puppy), and all are handling non grain-free foods just fine without any allergic reactions so far. Corgis don't normally have issues with grain, but some do have issues with dry skin. Usually switching them to a grain-free diet doesn't fix the dry skin issue, but if this happens to your pup later on, it's best to have a vet check them out as it 'might' be grain based or another allergy type.
Anyway! We bathed half of the pups today and will do the rest tomorrow. They had their nails done, were bathed with Burts Bee's pup shampoo (one of my favs) and then I sprayed them with a quality coat conditioner called Ice on Ice. Conditioning is very important and I suggest you buy a bottle of one. I have a few I use, if you want a list. Some are less expensive than Ice on Ice. With one Corgi, you won't go through a bottle fast, but you'll definitely see a difference in coat quality if you use a decent dog shampoo and conditioner. Helps with shedding too!
They got their pads massaged ( for adults, I do weekly baths, and then massage paw pads with Bag Balm so the skin remains hydrated and supple. You don't want cracking pads), they get their ears wiped out, and nails done. Then, they got stacked for evaluation because I like seeing if they could be show dogs. Some are actually looking real nice in the topline so far!
I'll post pics of the drowned rats tomorrow. LOL
Hope everyone is doing well and getting excited!
I'm currently editing photos to upload. But, if any of you are calling, please hold off a couple of days. It hurts to talk and I'm losing my voice a bit. Not pleasant.
However! Pups are doing great after their Parvo shot! They're a lot bouncier today (they slept most of yesterday) and are feeling up to snuff. No adverse reactions - no fevers, no lethargy.. not that I expected it, but you never know!
For those planning pick ups next month - remember they were born 3/17/18. The soonest they can leave is 8 weeks legally. That means 8 entire weeks, not 7 weeks and 6 days. Plus, we want good, well-adjusted, socialized pups, so rushing them isn't a good thing. You'll have your baby its entire life, you can wait a week. ;) Also, waiting until 12 weeks isn't going to work for them or me. Plan ahead folks! I'm easy to work with, but c'mon...
I will likely be doing a trip to Ellensburg area for a client, because I'm just that awesome, so if you want to save yourself some time and travel, I'd be more than happy to meet you there for a pick up. If enough of you choose to meet there on that day, I won't even charge you all gas money (but, bribing me with tacos is always accepted). Remember that's a 3+ hour drive for me one way, then I have 3+ hours to get home. That's 6+ hours of time dedicated to driving up, plus any time actually being there waiting for you, etc. This is an entire day spent on this, so I'll only do it once.
For those coming all the way out, you're welcome to meet at my house, or in Spokane area since it will save you about an hours drive and I go into Spokane area for shopping and visiting my horses anyway. No gas charge for that. But, do start planning on pick up! I have 7 to schedule, so I won't be able to clone myself to meet two people in two locations at once. Also... I do have a small life, and if you want to pick up on a weekend, I need to know in advance. I really don't make plans while I have a litter of pups here, but I do sometimes get pulled into things. ;)
We're running a bit behind today. We did all our shots and everyone did fine (except one cry baby - Faolan!). They're sleepy, which is usual for shots day. I took a video just so everyone can see their babies. Please forgive my floor, it looks worse than it is because of the color lol. We do sweep and mop about a billion times a day, but when the adults go outside, they bring in the dust. Note to self: next floor - not so dark! ;) They do have a ton of toys, but like I said, we were cleaning, so most of their toys and puppy bed were in the wash.
The babies ears are starting to perk up! They're getting adorable! Pics later on. I'm giving them a bit of a rest while we do Sunday house cleaning. Spring finally arrived, so we're getting some actual sun! Enjoy the video!
I was feeling a bit under the weather today and didn't get around to photos or shots. I'll be doing them tomorrow. I'm sorry, everyone. Just didn't feel well at all, so kinda slept the day away. Not an enjoyable Saturday at all. Pups are great, and tomorrow will be better. Again, Sorry.
The pups are all pretty solidly eating kibble along with the puppy mush now. They're really enjoying teething on the kibble as they cut teeth. Video tomorrow before we give them the first of the vaccinations and after we do the daily puppy pen scrub down! I use NeoPar - which is an early Parvovirus vaccination. At 6 weeks they get NeoVac for the non-Parvo stuff. By the time they're 8 weeks old, they'll have two sets of vaccinations in them, and at 8 weeks, the micro-chips before they go.
Next week they move off of the Nemex-2 worming and get Panacur.
It's almost time! Wow this litter has gone by fast! They're all crazy fun pups with enormous personalities! Almost all the pups are choosing to wean themselves now, and with the exception of one or two, I feel they're all going to be ready by 8 weeks to go to their new homes. The others will no-doubt catch up or be ready a week later. Sometimes the more timid pups take a bit longer and having less of the more confident (aggressive) siblings around brings them up nicely. It's hard when you're low man in the litter pecking order.
The leader of this group is Thierry. She's the boss of this litter and is relentless in her pursuit of trouble! lol She's followed by Daire and Riordan who like to battle it out for second place - and they typically fight dirty. Lots of battles (play, of course). Lorcan and Cieran join in, but are more interested in general playing and not challenging the 'boss' for top spot. Faolan couldn't care less about anything. He's just happy to do whatever. Aodhan is the watcher. He will snipe anyone that is the 'loser' of a play match and take them on. lol When Lorcan and Cieran battle for a toy, it's Aodhan who will slink over, steal the toy and walk off! lol All of them love a cuddle though, and while very playful, they're all sweet babies.
No one takes a toy from Thierry or her seconds in line! ;)
...Thierry will also bark-sass at you. She's spicy!
I was asked not to put litter names on the pics so they can be printed... so your wish has been granted! Enjoy!
I'm logged on via a hotspot so I can post this. Power is out with the wind storm. Soon as it's back on and internet works I'll be posting up the 4 week pics! LOVE these pics! Can't wait to show you all!
I'll be trying to get them to sit for 4 week old pics later. They played very hard this morning, had a BIG breakfast, played with Lilly and are just wiped out. lol For us, it's shopping and laundry before the storm hits tonight. Spring is coming right?
The beds look filthy, but they get laundered every other day. The debris is brought in from using pine litter (it crumbles) on their feet once they use the potty box. They all use it pretty consistently now. Always pooping in it, and mostly peeing in it. They just had their lunch and everyone was sleepy. So, here are some cute pics I caught while swapping the beds out to launder them lol.
Today was worming day, so everyone is feeling a bit abused lol. They're quiet and snuggly and wanting momma for comfort. So, I won't pester them too much today. So far, clean poops without any evidence of worms since birth. This is my second litter using Nemex-2 this early and it's working wonderfully.
The pups are all cutting teeth, so temperaments are strong right now. Lots of puppy anger and general whining. Momma isn't too entirely keen on being nursed right now. It'll settle down. They're eating their mush 2x a day, and I'll be moving it to 3x a day tomorrow. They're even starting to test out kibble and finding it tasty and it feels SOOO good on their gums.
This is the big week where they are so touchy, so pictures have been sporadic because of it. In a few days, those teeth will be a bit longer and attitudes will be less grumpy and pics will flow once again!
Sorry for no pictures yesterday. I took about 50 of them and 2 weren't blurry, but were so pixelated. Today my replacement Canon will arrive (Thanks Amazon!) and I'll be taking fresh ones. Batteries are already charging up! Keep your eyes open around 4pm for new pics!
They all jumped in, ate their bellies full and even had some water! Like clockwork! Nothing keeps a good Corgi from its food bowl lol.
Some of my contracts are not being received. If you haven't received an emailed contract or docusign from me by today, email me and we'll sort it out. Remember to check spam folders first. Sometimes they end up there.
New pics tomorrow!! 3 weeks old already!!! WOW! These guys aren't quite willing to try puppy mush yet, but you can bet in a few days they will be! Mom is already mostly ignoring them except for feeding them. This is normative and tells me they're right on target. Weight gain is positive, they're not skinny and they're starting to expand their 'territory' by peeking out of the box and trying to leave it. By this time next week, they'll be EVERYWHERE!
We moved the whelping box out of my bedroom and into the dining room (our puppy area) in preparation of them hopping out. Our whelping area will have a litter box, and heavy plastic lining the pen walls to protect MY walls! ;) I've introduced some stuffed animals and other toys to encourage them to play, but they're not quite interested. Like I said, another week and they'll be attacking toys, running around the penned area and beginning to eat puppy mush (Spot Farms dehydrated grain-free food to start).
The potatoes will be changing very quickly now. You won't recognize them in a week!
As you can tell by my incredibly lined palm, I'm either 90 y/o or that's a bit of plastic smaller than a grain of rice.
If you chose plastic, you're correct!
If you think I'm 90, the price for your pup just went up by 9 bajillion! ;)
So, that bit of plastic is the little door switch thingie for my camera battery/SD card. Because it's in my hand and not in my camera means that my nice camera isn't functioning. Yeah...
This isn't a post to say you won't get pics... but you won't get the really nice pics until a few days from now when Amazon delivers my new camera replacement. Hope you all don't mind cellphone pics.
Pics still coming this evening!
Expect new individual pics this evening. This time with eyes open! Yay!
Everyone is doing great! We collected feces from some of the pups and no worms shed on first worming. Same with momma. All pups can wobble around and are starting to use each other as play toys. Teeth are just barely starting to push against the gums! They've had their nails trimmed and are beginning to associate toys as things to play with.
Weights are all in the proper range for their age, and they're nursing well!
Ignore the television in the background! lol I also have zero idea why my voice sounds crazy weird. Ignore that too!
If you've been selected for a pup this litter, please make your decisions asap.
