Panacur: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 weeks of age *Giardia in your area's water
At times, Giardia can be a problem. I've had one pup test positive previously when taken to a well baby checkup 5 days after leaving my home. Concerned, as this isn't usually a problem in my area, but very common on the west side of the state, I went ahead and did fecals on all my adult dogs and contacted the owners of the litter. None of the other pups tested positive with Giardia and my dogs were clean. No idea why that particular pup tested positive, but Panacur fixed it. Maybe it was a misdiagnosis, or maybe it happened out there, or who knows. I offered to pay for the medicine either way. It's more important to me to fix the problem than to decide who is at fault.
My vet asked me what I wormed with and stated that wormers were like flea/tick solutions - they didn't always work in the area where you live. So, I switched my worming method to incorporate Panacur as my primary wormer for out here. Kinda no-brainer for me as I worm my horses with Panacur out here, but hey... live and learn! Knowledge is power. ;) So, please do check to see what wormer works well in your area. I use Nemex-2 on the new babies and momma during their early weeks because it's gentle on them, but thereafter, Panacur is the drug of choice. |
